Change in location –

AAA California just opened a new office in Jackson, on August 9th, 2010. Still located in the Amador Shopping Plaza at 11992 State Highway 88, Suite 2048 in the same building as Roberts Retirement Group. Its hours of operation are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

The new branch is located next door to the office space AAA once occupied at Amador Shopping Plaza almost 30 years ago.  The AAA office in Jackson offers insurance, DMV, and membership services. Insurance products include coverage for auto, home, life insurance and annuities. In addition to emergency road service, AAA membership offers a wealth of benefits that can save you money and time and make life more convenient.

Readers of the Amador Ledger Dispatch recently named the previous AAA office in Jackson the Best of Amador County 2010. The staff at the new office looks forward to continuing its high level of service to the community.

Private Pilot Groundschool starting September 20

Every dreamed of learning to fly? Not sure whether aviation is for you but would like to learn more?

A five-week groundschool is starting in Jackson on September 20. This Monday and Wednesday evening class introduces all the major topics in general aviation, including basic aerodynamics, principles of navigation, Federal Aviation Regulations, aviation weather, and the physiology of flight. While the class is designed to prepare students to take the written test required for a Private Pilot Certificate, many students in the past have just taken the course for general knowledge. "Only about a third of the students in the class go on to take flight training," said Bill Woodbury, the certified flight instructor providing the class. "We get students from all walks of life and all age groups," continued Woodbury. In fact, Woodbury provides 2 scholarships for high school students in each course he teaches. These scholarship students take the class free from tuition, but agree to stay up on the homework and class assignments, and do a day's volunteer work at the airport.

Classes will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6pm, starting September 20, in Jackson. Tuition is $195 plus books and materials. For more information, go to www.WestoverFlightTraining.com, or call Bill at 209-304-2576.

AssistCare Celebrates National Assisted Living Week
September 12-18, 2010

AssistCare communities will be celebrating National Assisted Week September 12-18. The communities, Oak Manor, Gold Quartz Inn, Amador Residential Care and Jackson Gardens have planned a week long variety of events and activities to show the residents how much they are cared about and loved. The 2010 theme is “living life,” and reflects the philosophy of the AssistCare homes; to provide a safe, comfortable and loving environment while preserving dignity and independence. “This is a great opportunity for residents, staff, family, volunteers and the community to come together and celebrate,” says Sharon McVicker, Marketing Director.

On September 14th at 10:30, Amador Residential Care will host the annual induction of new honorees to the 90+ and 100+ Club. This club is made up of residents who are special because they have lived to age 90 and above. Resident, Lincoln Wilson from Oak Manor, will be honored for an upcoming 100th birthday.

AssistCare invites the community to help celebrate National Assisted Living Week. Visit any of the facilities and join in the fun. “We are proud of our homes,” says Sharon, “and we would love to show you around.” Let’s live life together!

Contact Sharon McVicker, Marketing Offices – Oak Manor, 223 N.Y. Ranch Rd., Jackson, Phone: 209-223-3273 for information.
