Nominations being accepted for Golden Nugget recipient

The Amador County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for the 2010 Golden Nugget recipient.  The 7th Annual Golden Nugget Awards dinner will be held on March 12, 2010 at the Italian Picnic Grounds. This prestigious award is given to Amador County's unsung heroes, an inspiration of the late Margaret Dalton, Jackson Rancheria's Tribal Chairperson for over 25 years.

In 1979, a small Band of Miwuk Indians formed their own government and elected Margaret Dalton as their Tribal Chairperson, a position she held for over 25 years. Margaret had a dream to help the people of the Jackson Rancheria to build a better life and be self-sufficient. She realized that dream through hard work and determination. But her compassion to help others didn’t stop there.

 She had always been a big advocate of helping those in need with her immeasurable contributions to charities and organizations in Amador County. Margaret Dalton was a former director of the Amador County Chamber of Commerce, was honored as “Woman of Distinction” by the Nationwide Register’s Who’s Who in Executives and Businesses and as “Business Person of the Year” (1998) by the Amador County Chamber of Commerce. Margaret also recognized and lauded others in the communities who give of themselves unselfishly and quietly, and generally never get the recognition and thanks they deserve.

Her tireless devotion and commitment to the Amador community inspired the Amador County Chamber of Commerce to establish The Margaret Dalton Golden Nugget Award, to honor unsung heroes like Margaret Dalton.
